Our forests – Acacia (ROBINIA PSEUDOACACIA)

Acacia is a deciduous tree which was brought from America to Europe in the 17th century. It is considered an invasive species like weed, so often other species suffer because of it.

It can grow up to 25 m in height and about 90 cm in diameter. Its bark is deeply furrowed, greyish-brown and poisonous. The branches are spiky and have smooth bark. Acacia has such a strong root system that it is used on dikes.
