How flip-flops were created
Aug 29th, 2010 | By Cami | Category: Arts & Entertainment
Do you know how this very popular summer footwear was created? The design of today’s flip-flops was inspired by the traditional “zori” slippers worn by the Japanese. In 1930, flip-flops had first been used as beach footwear in New Zealand and from then on they became known as Japanese beach sandals or flip-flops.
Around 1950 they started making them out of plastic and rubber, and in 1957 Maurice Yock patented their final design in New Zealand.
Today’s summer wardrobe is unimaginable without the popular flip-flops.
The latest design are the so-called invisible flip-flops which have become a true success in Australia and Canada despite defying the law of gravity. The mystery of this miraculous footwear lies in special water-based glue that makes them stick to the foot without being absorbed by the skin. However, the invisible flip-flops have to be cleaned with a special cleaning agent in order not to remain sticky. This summer footwear was launched in America under the slogan: “Flip-flops that don’t flip or flop.”

Invisible flip-flops??!! I’m not reading this on All Fool’s Day, am I? Even though the explanation how this is achieved sounds reasonable sometimes I have to see to believe.
